Oh, my.
The last 3 weeks have been interesting.
Doug and I have moved 5 times since we have been married.
Each move comes with challenges and inconveniences. We moved last year when I
was pregnant and the summer broke many records for heat and droughts, I thought
it had to be the worst move ever. Bahaha, it was nothing compared to what we
have been through this time around.
I tell you the following not to complain, but to entertain
you and make you feel better about your own lives.
Let’s start with the day before the move: Recital Day
(Saturday). My beautiful girl had been in ballet since August of 2011. Her
class was on Mondays and 4:45, but she was usually dressed in her pink leotard by
9 am each day. To say that she loved ballet and Ms. Melissa is far understated.
The recital could not have gone better, with the exception that her genius
mother forgot the camera (yep, I cried when I realized it). So all I have all
the pictures from my phone. We have professional pictures from the week before
that are great and are expecting the DVD any day.
Addison did great, my favorite part by far was when she
looked over at her teacher and gave her the “thumbs up”. Melt my heart. She was
sooo excited to have Grandma and the cousins there. Little princess went home
with 3 dozen roses.
The next morning (Sunday)I left in a car packed with all
three kids and all three dogs. I wasn’t even sad, didn’t shed a tear. I had all
my kids with me, I was happy. Doug stayed behind one night and finished
cleaning the house and yard work. I love him for that, I really really do. He
is such a trouper lately, so willing to pick up where I fall short. We are a
team.
The house was a mess when I got here. We moved into a house
that we have owned for a while, but never lived in. We have stayed here quite a
bit and basically had 2 houses worth of C.R.A. P. Even though we had a garage sale a month
earlier, we still just had too much. If you know me, you know I can’t rest
until everything is right and well there was no way to get it right so….yeah.
So I woke up Monday morning ready for the movers to bring me
a real bed and let me get the house in order. While waiting the A/C went out.
It was 87 in the house before a repair man made it here. The problem was ants
and the price was $170! What a joke. The movers didn’t arrive until almost
dark, we all went to be sweaty but thank goodness we woke up nice and cool.
On Tuesday, our frog died. Frosty was our albino aquatic
frog. He was my first class pet when I actually had a teaching job. Either the
temperature, change of water, or maybe the fact that he was 6 years old was just too much. I was very very very sad.
We had a funeral and tried to move on.
Did I mention that Parker was sick at this point? I started
stressing pretty bad because we LOVE our pediatrician so much and I couldn’t
imagine having to go anywhere else. So it was eeny meeeny miney moe off to a
random doctor we go. Well, not exactly. We were actually seen by the doctor’s
assistant’s medical student. Wow, we must have really been giving out our “V.I.P.
vibes” that day!!Good thing it was just a bad case of allergies…probably J Still haven’t had the heart to find another
pediatrician, but we have some good leads.
On Wednesday we discovered bees going in and out of one of
the window frames. Honey bees to be exact. We called a bee keeper, the bee
keeper didn’t think it was worth tearing the house apart to try to save the
small swarm. They suggested we call an exterminator. The exterminator has been
here two times and is scheduled to come back tomorrow to hopefully finish the
job…another $165 not expected.
After that all the days started blurring together. Each
morning starts at 5am with the neighbor’s rooster waking us and ends with reading
stories and rocking my baby to sleep. We have found a great little produce
stand that we have visited several times. We LOVE buying homemade jelly and
preserves from the stands too. I hope that at this time next year I will be
eating the produce from our own garden! We bought local honey, seems a little
ironic doesn’t it.
It feels like things are just getting better and better. We
are easing into a nice little routine. We have already made some good memories.
We have spent several nights in the back yard grilling, working on the yard and
swinging Addison in her swing…which is hung from one of our beautiful trees. We
have spent lots of good time with Jenna. I think she likes having us here? We
sure like being closer to her, she is an amazing girl. Such a sweetheart!
Argyle will always hold a special place in our hearts. It is
the place where our family was made. It is the place where we were broken and
made whole again. It is the place of unforgettable changes. A part of our
hearts will always be there with the memories we made and the friends we left
behind. But, I don’t regret the move, I am truly happy and see wonderful things
coming our way.
This house will never
be perfect, but it is ours. It provides freedom that we haven’t had in a long
time.
